Covè: The head office of the Prison Fellowship International: Benin section is in Covè. During two weeks, we worked with the people of Covè in facilities managed by the Fellowship: medical clinic, computer services desk, maternity clinic.
We also organized a day camp for close to 200 children from Hounso and Houin. Finally, the second and third Jeun’ Espoir groups participated in the construction of a medical complex, which will also house the new Fellowship headquarters.
Abomey: The 2006 and 2008 groups assisted in a medical clinic within the Abomey civil prison. During those three days, we treated 800 male and female detainees, to whom we distributed medication.
Cotonou: We visited the Cotonou civil prison, where we assisted in sanitizing the sleeping quarters and cells. We also met many young offenders at the Centre de sauvegarde de l’enfance, located on the outskirts of the city.
Success story: In 2004, on our first trip, we met a young man affected by a goiter. Thanks to the generosity of our donor, Gislain underwent an operation in 2008 and can now live goitre free!
